Butterfly grounded

This next toy is All for Paws’ Natural Instincts butterfly door hanger cat toy. I have so far been unable to find a website for this company. I bought the toy from Target.

The bright colors and crinkle sound of the butterfly wings instantly attracted Bruce. The attached string was a bit short, so I attached the toy just above the door handle to get Bruce’s attention first, then gradually moved further up. The toy looked great and I think was great idea, but a failure in design. Within 15 minutes, the string attaching the butterfly to the rest of the apparatus came undone, but that seems to be a common problem with any string-attached toy, so I don’t count that against it.
However, the main complaint I have is that the door hanger part broke three times, all from the stem that branched out from the clamp to the string attached to the butterfly. I was able to fix it twice well enough for him to continue to play with it, but after the third, there was no salvaging the toy. I know Bruce plays rough, but no rougher than any other kitten I’ve ever seen. This would be a great toy if the hanger were a bit sturdier.
Bruce still plays with the butterfly from time to time, but he definitely preferred it when it was dangling on the door rather than lying on the floor.
Is it Bruce-proof? No — the door hanger needs either to be made from a stronger material or more reinforcement in order to handle a lot of rough kitten play.
